The following was written by Rayner in May, 2007.

From 1959 when I first found that I could stimulate my intuition, my unconscious has from time to time erupted with quite elegant and workable solutions. They come in all kinds of ways. Sometimes it is a very strong thought such as a load whisper, others it is a secondary picture in my mind that is superimposed on the main picture. Then it is similar to one of those TV sets that you can purchase that shows what is on an another channel via a little box superimposed in the corner. All have arisen in response to a situation that either other parents or I have faced.

One of my first major inventions was the Baby Sling. It is now sold in the thousands every year and is marketed by hundreds of companies worldwide. New types of Baby Slings and related inventions are on page INT 2- Baby Slings of this website.

Some of my inventions:

The Neuro-stimulator.

The very first invention that I put in for a patent for. This was not an entirely original invention. This device was used initially by Professor Leduc in 1920 to induce anaesthesia in animals and then later humans was an improved adaptation of Leduc’s invention. Leduc used a fixed frequency, I had a hunch that a variable frequency that had to be "tuned" to every individual patient might work on a far greater percentage of the population. This proved to be so. The Home Office banned it’s use in 1966.

Note: (Leduc, S., Production of sleep and general and local anaesthesia by intermittent current of low voltage. Arch.d’Electri Med., 10.617-621.
1902, Bordeaux.) As only 80% of animals and humans responded it was obviously not suitable for general anaesthesia but may well be suitable for assisting in reducing pain and distress during labour and may well have a part to play in reducing chemical addiction.

A sensitive trembler alarm that is activated by an intruder for children sleeping alone on holiday.

A personal miniature camera mounted on the shoulder for kids running errands. When the alarm is activated the camera will send images to a police station and the parent. Also if expense were no object a tracking device would also be automatically triggered.

Clothing that is fitted with hidden spikes that would emerge whenever activated by the child that would give a high voltage shock to anyone
grasping them. Batteries would be integral fitted in the clothing.
Stops abductors and bullies. I like this one!

A portable incubator for use by a parent or nurse so that they can wear a second stage preemie on the ward. If equipment is required this can be placed on a wheeled device that the parent or nurse can tow behind them from an attachment to their belt. An alternative to the kangaroo method.

An electronic safety catch for firearms, which is only activated by electronic chips embedded in the butt of the weapon, to prevent, unauthorised use.
The primary user would program the chips. A secondary user such as the policeman’s partner could also be programmed in case during a fight the gun is knocked from the primary users hand and is grabbed by his partner. Would prevent anyone else from using his weapon.

A miniature computer mounted on the barrel of a rifle or shotgun that is programmed with a visual sight and electronic safety catch, that has already been programmed not to allow the gun to be fired when pointed at a family member or friend. Can be pre-programmed. Save a lot of lives, that one.

A miniature flame thrower for rape or mugging prevention. Two separate miniature cylinders mounted on a belt with two inert gases. Which when mixed together become highly volatile like napalm mixture. When threatened or attacked the potential assaulted just raises their hand and a hidden tube attached to two plastic tubes running to the cylinders, activate the liquids to mix together, and a nozzle shoots out of your wrist beyond your hand. Ignition is instantaneous and the length of flame can vary from six inches to sixteen feet. The rapist or mugger can either be slightly singed or completely immolated. It is difficult to fire a gun accurately when a sixteen-foot flame is enveloping you.

Rape prevention service run by single mothers that would be individually employed to make a room totally proofed against intruders. Women because they could be trusted by single women living on their own. Many simple
and inexpensive electronic and mechanical devices are available. Single mothers because they need the work and can have their infants with them.

Wheelchair in which a person can rise and be supported by a wide belt placed around his chest.
The seat drops down and when the wheelchair is
activated to roll forward the seat breaks in half and each side will rise and descend with a roller fitted at the end of the seat will exercise his legs. He would also appear to be walking. A curved bucket type seat would emerge by swinging round from the side, on the pressing of a button.
The disabled could then offer a seat to another disabled person or an elderly or even young lady! Balancing wheels would latch down or emerge from the sides to add extra stability. Advertising on the sides and back of the wheelchair could be used to help pay for the additional work. Very useful for standing at a sink, stove or workbench.
Liberates the disabled. Great idea for a movie. Contact the inventor if interested. :-)

Waterproof seals for doors at shopping centres and in homes.
In the event of floods these seals would prevent water coming in the main doors. Most stores have watertight walls and it takes quite a while before water would seep in through a wall. There is usually only a front and back door that need to be sealed by means of waterproofed shutters.
Shutters can be stored and only fitted when forecasts mention storms imminent or at night. Stores and homes that used these forms of
preventing floodwater from entering would bear reduced insurance.

Floating Homes.
Not my invention, really. Floating houses are now in use by the Dutch, and “house boats” are even in the USA, for instance, is Seattle, Washington state.

A speeding information device that would be fitted to the front end, or roof of cars that would enable a pedestrian to ascertain the speed of an approaching car. This device would be fitted with a large read out digital device that can be clearly seen for some distance. If fitted on the roof it would be more visible to traffic cops. Would save on the useof radar guns. Speeds would be recorded on cameras.

Save as noted, all these devices were invented by Rayner Garner and never patented. They are for
use by anyone who is concerned for the safety and protection of children and the disabled.

Rayner finished this message with the following:

There you go. The list is not complete, but many of my inventions are there. This was compiled at 3.30 am. Now I feel tired and can go back to bed.
